Honored To Be Set Apart In Expediency

John Tilton

Scripture

Acts 12:2-3

While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said,“Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the workto which I have called them.”So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on themand sent them off.

Observation

It was in their worship and fasting time that the Holy Spirit prompted the disciples in the Lord’s will to set apart Barnabas and Saul for a call on their life. Thus, they completed their fasting and prayer, prayed over them, and sent them off on their call.

Wow, talk about expediency. The scriptures didn't’ say that Barnabas and Saul had to pray about the prompting, plan their lives, ask about compensation or provision. However, they were prayed over and they were sent.

Application

What comes to me is the expediency of how I feel I should tend to the things of the Lord. Not to second guess, not to question why, and what’s in it for me. But rather to know the urgency to fulfill the Lord’s call and will. Yes, I will need to plan for what I am called to do. Yes, I will need to do my best in questioning how things should be done. Yes, I should pray for guidance and wherewithal. However, the expediency of fulfilling God’s will is important. The plans should not be for my benefit, but for the will of the Lord and what he’s call me to do.

Prayer

Dear Lord, please guide me to do your will with expediency. May I be careful not to question and try to figure out the why, but instead the how to do your will with expediency and intent.
