Where Credit is Due

Tim Savage

10“Therefore, this is what the SovereignLordsays: Because Egyptbecame proud and arrogant, and because it set itself so high above the others, with its top reaching to the clouds,11I will hand it over to a mighty nation that will destroy it as its wickedness deserves. I have already discarded it.Ezekiel 31

The fall of the great kingdoms was preceded by pride.Kingdoms that do not recognize God as the Lord and Savior, kingdoms that worship idols instead of the Creator, kingdoms that take credit and believe in their own success and accomplishments won’t last because pride comes before the fall.Bowing down to idols doesn’t happen overnight, it’s not usually noticeable, it happens over time and underground. It’s the imperceptible turn toward something that we selfishly value:money, power, influence, fame.We start to believe those voices around us that say we’re great, we’re talented, we’re smart, we are deserving of the praise and accolades.

But, we are not.God deserves all the glory.God deserves all the credit, honor and praise, not me.When I think that I am the reason for the season, then I am worshiping another god.

I must always put God first.I must be quick to correct back to Him, being careful never to put anything before Him or take credit that is due Him.I have to live to make Him famous.I realize that my hopes and dreams are selfishly about me, not Him.They may include Him or tangentially be about Him, but really they are about me, my money, my fame.I must correct back to His perfect will for my life.I have to change my mindset to think – what can I do for God, not what can God do for me?How can I make Him famous, not, what can I do to make me famous.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Please forgive me for the times when I’ve put myself before You.I want to bring You glory in all that I do.I want others to see You in me.I want to live in such a way to draw and attract people to You.

In Jesus name,
