The Sabbath Rest

Calvin Kochi

Scripture

21The land enjoyed its sabbath rests; all the time of its desolation it rested, until the seventy years were completed in fulfillment of the word of the Lord spoken by Jeremiah.

2 Chronicle’s 26:21

Observation

It took the people to be carried away into captivity for the land to get rest. In todays world we are so busy with so many things that anything more causes a system overload. The children of Israel followed and clung on to other gods which caused them to abuse the Sabbath. The temple of once a place of worship and dedicated to the Lord now being destroyed and the people carried of in to exile.

Application

The one thing that I have noticed about the Lord is the consistency of how he gets my attention. For the past week the Lord has been talking about the keeping the Sabbath Holy onto the Lord. Many times I can abuse it by not taking the time for the Sabbath, or I get to busy with other things that distracts me. Other timesI can be so busy in ministry that my personal desires and even ministry become idols. I can end up worshiping the god of busyness instead of taking the time to enjoy and resting in the Sabbath. Sabbath’s are valuable time set aside for the Lord. It is in my Sabbaths that I can be still and know that God is God and that I need to be grateful to honor Him. I am reminded how valuable Sabbath’s really are and that it is time that I must carve out.

Prayer

Thank you for confirming the inportance of the Sabbath. the children of Israel kept busy with everything else but you, and wore out themsleves as well as the land in which you gave them. keep me from the idol of being to busy. I must make time with you to have that Sabbath rest.
