Right Where He Wants Me

Tim Savage

Scripture

21One day as Mordecai was on duty at the king’s gate, two of the king’s eunuchs, Bigthana and Teresh—who were guards at the door of the king’s private quarters—became angry at King Xerxes and plotted to assassinate him. 22But Mordecai heard about the plot and gave the information to Queen Esther. She then told the king about it and gave Mordecai credit for the report. 23When an investigation was made and Mordecai’s story was found to be true, the two men were impaled on a sharpened pole. This was all recorded in The Book of the History of King Xerxes’ Reign. Esther 2

Observation

I love the story of Esther and Mordecai. It has all of the elements of a great movie! Intrigue, action, beauty, twists & turns, bravery and heroism all make this one of my favorite books in the Bible. Even at this early stage of the story I am reminded of Romans 8:28, 28“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” Mordecai was called, then Esther, and they couldn’t begin to understand the magnitude of their role until much later. God’s plan was in motion, but man couldn’t see what was to come. He revealed little bits at a time, putting in to motion things that would later serve to save the entire Jewish nation.

Application

Each of us is called – to our homes, to our jobs, our schools, communities, neighborhoods, churches – God has strategically and specifically placed us in areas where we can influence others around us. Now, I’m pretty sure I’m not here to save an entire nation and maybe the same is true for you, but we can all be sure that we are here to be an example to those in our areas of influence. I’m constantly reminded how it takes all of us to reach the lost. When I look around at church and I see people of all ethnicities, ages, socio-economic groups and differing personalities it’s clear that God uses each of us to reach those around us.

Also, God uses our circumstances for good. Mordecai and Esther had been taken from their homeland, like Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. Those aren’t the most favorable situations, but it was all part of God’s plan for His greater good and glory. I may be facing some giants, I may wish for easier or different circumstances, but I must never forget that God has me right where He wants me and causes everything to work together for my good. We can’t see what is right around the corner, but God can and it is far better and greater than anything we could dream for ourselves.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for Your divine plan for our lives. May I always remember that if You guide and direct my steps, no matter what I go through, no matter what I face, You are with me and it is part of Your glorious plan. I can’t wait to see what is around the corner.

In Jesus name, amen
