Can You Hear Me

Calvin Kochi

13“But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’

14“I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” Luke 18:13-14

How easy it is to relate to the tax collector who didn’t feel worthy enough to come close enough for his prayer to be heard. The tax collector stood at a distance beating himself up crying out to the Lord, have mercy on this sinner. This tax collector humbled himself.

There are times I feel like the tax collector who stood at a distance and prayed feeling so unworthy. Then there are times where my attitude and thoughts are stinky not the best. And I’m wrestling with my heart and don’t like what is going on inside of me. At times it’s my pride and other times it's the hurt and pain that I wrestle with. Yet all the Lord is asking of me is to humble myself and seek His mercy, and to come to Him honestly and not arrogantly. It is better for me to humble myself than to be humiliated by circumstance.

Thank you Lord for your mercy. it is by grace that i can come to you and bear my heart to you and to do it with humility. I am reminded to come to you in humility and honesty. help me to scrub my heart through prayer.
